Tigrinhos’s Reading in the Park Project, an action promoted by Tigrinhos Comunidade (not-for-profit branch of Tigrinhos & Golden Tigers Bilingual School), took place last September 24 in five different parks of the city. The project was developed in a partnership with Campinas Rotary Club Alvorada, and aimed to promote reading among children, youth, and adults in low-income communities with little access to books and libraries.
Social educators trained at Tigrinhos Comunidade’s storytelling program wore costumes and welcomed children, teenagers and even adults, who had the chance to explore books and listen to stories. Kids also enjoyed face painting and arts activities.
The project started in 2012, and since then has gone through multiple transformations and improvements, increasing the number of parks reached every year.
The non-profit organizations that participate in Tigrinhos Comunidade’s training programs got to invite people form the surrounding areas to receive the more than 2500 books gathered through donations from Tigrinhos & Golden Tigers, Campinas Alvorada Rotary Club, Anhanguera University students, and Tatu Bolinha toy store.
There were books and genres for all kinds of tastes. 500 books, on average, were taken to each park, including children´s and young-adult literature, comic and adult books.
The 2016 Reading in the Park Project was a huge success! Tigrinhos Comunidade would like to express its sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to this wonderful experience.
