At Tigrinhos and Golden Tigers, healthy eating is of the utmost importance.
The bilingual school promotes smart nutrition at all ages. In order to ensure our kids have only the best, we work with our own staff and company, ABC Kitchen, which is equipped with a team of competent professionals, including a nutritionist (Christina Stier Coelho, a “Kiki”) and an educational nutritionist (Erika Franchim).
Our menus are balanced, varied, and inviting so that the students are always trying new recipes and developing their palates. The specialists check in on the kitchen staff and follow up with students to guarantee that they have access to all the nutrients necessary for growth. The teachers also accompany the kids during their snack time, reinforcing healthy eating habits, both in choice and consumption.
All the fruits, vegetables, and greens are bought and served fresh, hand-picked by the school director every week. Smoothies and juices are made here, daily, with no sugar (except for limeade and passion fruit juice, which do take some added sugars).
Nutrition in the Classroom
Our nutritionist and educational nutritionist often pay the students visits to talk about healthy eating. We also have a school psychologist, who works closely with our food specialists to develop multidisciplinary projects on mindful eating. Special attention is given to any student who demonstrates difficulty during meal times or any type of unhealthy eating habits. They are encouraged to discuss their issues and participate in group projects about nutrition.
ABC Educational Kitchen
ABC Educational Kitchen is our school kitchen, which caters to Tigrinhos and Golden Tigers students and staff. The industrial-sized kitchen is divided into different sectors, each responsible for a particular food item or process. For example: stocking supplies, making recipes, preparing juices, hand-washing fruits and greens, and even a special area designated for nursing. Our team is trained to optimize the space and streamline production.
Tigrinhos and Golden Tigers has a kitchen designed specifically for culinary classes and discussions about nutrition. The lessons are taught by our educational nutritionist and/or our chef, and the topics often correspond to the ongoing multilateral projects. They also tend to align with whatever country is being studied that particular month. The experimental kitchen gives the students the chance to really get their hands dirty and learn, in practice, about cooking and eating. They are free to try different spices, experiment with a variety of textures, and learn about cooking, grilling, and baking. Tigrinhos and Golden Tigers works hard to promote healthy, natural, and multicultural eating habits.
